Exploring Jalousie

a small photo selection:

Do you remember Jalousie?

I was very intrigued by the colorful neighborhood last year, and I had to visit it now that I’m in Haiti again. Most people there were friendly, but very few wanted their picture taken, and some reveled in saying “No! Go!”

I guess having the power to say that is quite enjoyable if you own little else.

Jalousie is among many slums that have sprawled across the hills of the capital Port-au-Prince in recent decades because governments past and present have failed to provide affordable housing and basic services.  … Amid its narrow corridors and steep steps, Jalousie has no traditional sewage system or electric grid. (The Huffington Post)

Jalousie does have the best view in Port-au-Prince though. And now colors.

Let’s hope the improvements don’t stop there.

Hello, Haiti

Haiti, caribbean island

The clock is barely six, but I can hear my bed calling from the distance. Jet lag, I know this state is called that. Other than than that I don’t know anything. But I’ll adjust eventually 😉 Until then …

the very first views & sights:

Unfortunately, I did not get a window seat, but my friendly plane-neighbor graciously allowed me to basically crawl into her lap 🙂 Merci!

Mixed feelings

Winter activities at Dombås in Norway
Ah, the moment I shot this was so sweet and I smile when I remember it. But it’s a memory with a price tag……
I paid 100 dollar to develop 24 pictures yesterday. I assure you it was the last time I brought films to a developer in Oslo.
But I can enjoy the feeling of holding the following picture in my hand when the chocolate abstinence kicks in. Yeah.

On the bright side – if I don’t tell anyone, nobody will yell at me….

I love winter

Sunlight seeping through elk trees

I’ve had the best weekend, out with the nature, playing in the snow… learning carving and cross-country skiing 😮 (I’m so proud of myself!) The sun was shining brightly. So much fun! It was great and added a whole new dimension, or perspective, to winter.

And I’m drowning in studies. But how’s your life? Feel free to share anything 😉
